Insurance
This information has come from the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) manual and web site:
VMIA is a Statutory Authority established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act 1996. VMIA is the insurer for the Victorian State Government, which includes government departments, statutory authorities and other persons or bodies as directed by the Minister (S3; S25A).
VMIA manages the insurance agreements between the student's educational institution (e.g. University, college etc.) and a Victorian Public Healthcare Provider with the aid of the Student Indemnity Template Document.
This template has been designed to ensure that the Public Healthcare Provider, the student and their respective educational institution will be indemnified in the event that a claim is made due to loss, damage, or personal injury during the student's time working for a Victorian Public Health Provider.
It is necessary for the public health provider, the student and educational facility to be insured under the VMIA Public Healthcare Program (PHP) in order to avoid being exposed to uninsured risks. The VMIA do modify and make amendments to their Public Healthcare Program and are open to receiving their client's ideas for modifications and amendments (please discuss these ideas with Jodie Ryan from VMIA).
VMIA, Department of Human Services (DHS), and educational institutions have developed an indemnity and insurance template which forms part of the Template Relationship Agreement.
This insurance coverage is of considerable value in allowing the students, educational institutions and public health providers the ability to collaborate together without troubling themselves over insurance worries.
