Review of aged care governance

< back to projects >

The aged care governance environment has undergone significant review and reform in recent years as a result of the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety (the Royal Commission) and will be further impacted by the revision of the Aged Care Quality Standards

In light of these reforms, the VHA has been commissioned to review governance reporting of public sector residential aged care (PSRAC) services to identify opportunities to enhance reporting and board oversight of aged care services. The PSRAC Clinical Governance Board Reporting Tool, developed by the PSRAC leadership committee and the Australian Centre for Healthcare Governance in 2019, will be modified and updated to reflect contemporary governance reporting practice and to support enhanced compliance with the recommendations of the Royal Commission and the Aged Care Quality Standards.

The tool will be promoted across the health sector targeting services that incorporate residential and community aged care programs and education on the tool and governance in aged care will be provided via a targeted webinar program.
