Leaders to come together to discuss healthcare opportunities and challenges

Monday 27, Oct 2025

More than 350 leaders from Victoria’s publicly funded healthcare sector are set to converge in Melbourne at the Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA) Conference, to discuss the most pressing  opportunities, innovations and challenges facing the publicly funded healthcare system.

Taking place over 2 days from 28-29 October, the VHA is proud to announce the return of the VHA Conference 2025: Leading through change. The Conference comes at a time of change for the sector, with ongoing reforms to acute service structures, aged care, mental health and primary care re-shaping the policy landscape. This exclusive event brings together leaders from across the sector, including policy makers, senior executives, researchers and Government, over two days to connect, share and learn practical solutions to strengthen the future of Australia’s health system.

The program features a mix of keynote presentations, expert panels and interactive sessions exploring the sector’s most pressing issues – from sector reform to health economics, workforce recruitment and retention, cybersecurity, cultural safety, and more.

Day one includes focused discussions on the digital shift redefining access to healthcare, mental health and aged care reform and advancing gender equity in health.

Day two includes focused discussions on best practice around clinical governance for quality/safety, the need to embed cultural safety across healthcare, innovative funding, skills and systems to strengthen regional and rural workforces and insights into opportunities and progress to reform primary care.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Dr Helen Bevan OBE, Professor of Practice in Health and Care Improvement at Warwick Business School and strategic advisor to the England’s National Health Service will present on driving leadership in health reform and deliver a masterclass on leading transformation in health systems.

  • Professor Emily Lancsar, Chief Health Economist with the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing on the complexities of Australia’s current health economic climate.

  • Leslie Cannold, Associate Professor of Ethics and Impact at the Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership, Monash University and a former health regulator, on ethical leadership in healthcare.

VHA CEO Leigh Clarke said that this important discussion comes at a critical time for the publicly funded health sector – with ageing populations and complex care requirements driving the need for expansion and innovation.

‘The 2025 Conference theme ‘Leading through change’ is timely – particularly when considering the many changes that healthcare leaders have in front of them to navigate, including multiple federal and state reforms, demand for more and different types of healthcare and fast-moving technological advancements.

‘In a time of rapid change for the Victorian healthcare sector, strong and influential leadership is essential. We are pleased to be bringing leaders and policymakers together, in the one room for these forward-looking and meaningful conversations.’
